The Magical Thing About Writing

I watched a documentary on Netflix called “STUTZ” recently. It was directed by Jonah Hill and the documentary was about his therapist named Phil Stutz and how he uses the tools from Phil to make his life better, and he wants to share those tools through this documentary with the world.

The documentary was really good and touching, and the tools from Phil were practical and easy to understand. I applied some of the tools on the spot while watching the documentary and it does have a positive effect on me.

Anyway, here’s an interesting part of this documentary that I wanted to highlight. It was when Phil explained about 3 tiers of a relationship (body, people, you). The base tier is to have a relationship with your body, the middle tier is to have a relationship with other people, and the highest tier is to have a relationship with yourself.

The best way to say it is to get yourself in a relationship with your unconscious because nobody knows what’s in their unconscious unless they activate it.

And one trick about this is writing.

It’s really a magical thing.

You enhance your relationship with yourself by writing. Some people say, “Well, write what?” “I’m not interesting. I’m not a writer.” It doesn’t matter. If you start to write, the writing is like a mirror. It reflects what’s going on in your unconscious, and things will come out if you write in journal form that you didn’t know that you knew.

This is exactly what I feel every time I write something and also the reason why I love to write. Because even though I don’t know what to write, once I wrote one word on a piece of paper than I’m in my unconscious state immediately and let this unconscious do the work for me. Writing really is a magical thing.
